The human heart is an organ that pumps blood around the body through many vessels. By doing this, it provides the various parts of our body with necessary compounds. A healthy heart is key for a healthy body hence why our heart health is so important.
Within our blood is two important compounds:
High Density Lipoproteins (HDLs): This is called "good" cholesterol as the presence of this in our blood lowers our risk of heart problems and stroke.
Low Density Lipoproteins (LDLs): This is called "bad" cholesterol as this increases our risk of heart problems and stroke.
When someone is diagnosed with High Cholesterol, this is in reference to LDLs. High Cholesterol is one of the biggest factors affecting our heart health so it is important to keep our LDL levels low and to monitor them regularly.
Here are some ways of reducing the LDLs in your blood and hence protect your heart:
Quit smoking
Eat a healthy diet
Don't exceed the recommended alcohol limit
Exercise regularly
Maintain a healthy body weight & shape
