Maintaining a healthy diet is something a lot of us struggle with so here are a few tips that can help us to do this:
Read the Colour-Coded Food Labels: Most of our groceries have colour-coded labels on them that give us nutritional snapshots of what we're buying and help us in choosing healthier options.
Green labels mean the food is low in that nutrient. This is the healthiest choice.
Amber labels mean the food has a medium amount of that nutrient. This is fine as part of a balanced diet.
Red means the food is high in that nutrient. This food item shouldn't be eaten often.
Swap to Healthier Options: By simply swapping our household staples with healthier options, we can significantly improve our diets. This is particularly important for those food items that have mostly red food labels.
Replace Salt With Alternative Seasonings: By reducing our salt intake we can lower our risk of higher blood pressure and in turn cardiovascular disease. At the same time, salt does significantly improve the taste of food. To maintain the tastiness of our food and a healthy diet, we can use alternative seasonings when cooking such as fresh herbs and mustard powder.
Track Your Daily Calorie & Nutrient Intake: There are many apps available to us that can help us track our food intake daily. Using these helps us to see what areas we need to improve on.
